Adults

At Hurst our desire is to live out the gospel’s work in our lives. Of course, we cannot do this through our own strength. We must have the grace of God. Thankfully, God has provided his grace in a number of different ways.

One avenue of grace is found in God’s Word (Acts 20:32). Another avenue of grace is realized before the throne of God in prayer (Heb. 4:16). And a third avenue of grace is experienced as we serve each other in the body of Christ (I Pet. 4:10).

Therefore, some of the best opportunities to grow in God’s grace is by combining all three of these when we gather together as a church for prayer and Bible study. As we gather our desire is to humble our hearts before God’s word, demonstrate our dependence before God’s throne, and express our love to God’s people.

Besides our Sunday morning and evening gatherings, our church accomplishes this in a number of ways.

Sunday School

While you will not find Sunday school in the Bible, it is a great opportunity to come together as a church. Our adult Sunday school is often more interactive as we share prayer requests and spend time in God’s Word. Sometimes we use lessons prepared by our pastor. Other times we use different curricula. But at all times our goal is to provide an interactive environment for drawing closer to God’s through his word.

Wednesday Prayer Meeting

In Acts 2 we find the early church was meeting regularly for a times of prayers. At Hurst, we have chosen to meet on Wednesday evening for a concentrated prayer meeting. This is an opportunity to spend time around our Father’s throne as we pray for our walk with the Lord, our community and our world.

Mens’ and Ladies’ Meetings

From time to time we will hold men’s and ladies’ meetings. Usually hosted in the home of one of our members, this is a time to gather to “provoke each other to love and good works” (Heb. 10:24). Scripture explains that we because we are in danger of being deceived by our sin, we should be encouraging each other daily (Heb. 3:13).

Our men’s and ladies meetings are designed to encourage each other to be faithfully following the Lord. Usually we will enjoy a meal, share testimonies of blessings and have a devotional time around God’s Word. As we consider God’s word in each of our lives we are encouraged to continue living by faith in God’s word.

Sunday Evening Suppers

Many times throughout the summer we will share meals together on Sunday evenings. This is an informal time to sit around a table and enjoy good Christian fellowship.
